Frequently Asked Questions
What is eCampus NZ?
eCampus NZ is a flexible online learning service that is provided by seven of New Zealand’s leading Institute of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs):
- Ara Institute of Canterbury
- Otago Polytechnic
- Universal College of Learning (UCOL)
- Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT)
- Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT)
- NorthTec
Are these qualifications recognised?
Yes! Our certificate and diploma qualifications are industry recognised, NZQA accredited and internationally accepted.
The qualification that learners will complete through eCampus NZ will be awarded by one of our partner Institute of Technology and Polytechnics. This means that the qualification will be of equal merit to a qualification completed on-campus.
Can learners study part time?
Part-time study, which involves completing one course at a time, works best for most learners. This requires a time commitment of about 15 hours each week. With flexible online study, learners can upskill around their work commitments.
If learners choose to study full-time, they will work on two courses at the same time. This will increase the time commitment to 30 hours of study each week.
How are learners supported?
eCampus NZ provides a supportive learning environment. Learners have access to their own student advisor, a dedicated course facilitator, resources on the eCampus NZ portal, the Smarthinking tutoring service and support services provided by their enrolling Institute of Technology and Polytechnic (ITP).
How do eCampus NZ courses work?
eCampus NZ courses are delivered by expert course facilitators. The study required can take many different forms, including readings, contributing to forums, completing activities and completing and submitting assessments.
Whilst learners do not need to be online at specific times, they are required to regularly access and engage with the course materials, manage their time carefully and complete all course and assessment requirements by the posted due dates.
When do course start and finish?
One of the major benefits of completing study with eCampus NZ is that we have courses available to start at regular intervals throughout the year.
The number of weeks each course takes to complete varies, depending on the number of credits per course and the course level. Most eCampus NZ courses are delivered over a period of 9-14 weeks and have monthly start dates.

“The team are looking at things through a different light and making improvements as they go. We can’t put a price tag on the development that they have had. They are now developing people down their line just because of this experience”.
