Hit the ground running

With a NZ certificate in Project Management level 4 you will know exactly where to start when it comes to carrying out a broad range of support roles as a team member and taking on responsibility for parts of a project.

eCampus NZ student, Accommodate Manager and mother-of-two Miriam Wells says she is already applying what she is learning to the workplace.

“I’m really impressed with the new information I’m learning. For example,  I’ve got a new project coming up in the next few months and I’m going to implement what I’ve learnt about defining the scope in more detail and producing project charters as well as other bits and pieces”, Miriam says.

Ara Institute of Canterbury Academic Manager, Nicky Hodges, who helped design the qualification says an employer looking at two candidates is highly likely to look more favourably on the one with foundation knowledge of project management.

Nicky says the qualification is for people wanting to understand how to take part in projects in the workplace.

“You will find that most people working in an office environment are managing or contributing to multiple projects every day. If you have the foundation skills and knowledge, an understanding of the tools and the cycle of a project, know where to start and how a project can be run effectively and efficiently – then you will have the edge over someone who doesn’t,” Nicky says.

The certificate qualification is broken down into four easy to manage courses – Introduction to Project Management, Scope Management, Lead a Project Component and Management Project Monitoring and Controlling.

Nicky says the eCampus NZ team has worked hard to create a supportive online learning environment designed to replicate the collegiality that comes from learning in a group.

“eCampus NZ students can enjoy the convenience of studying online while they work. The tutor will also support you through your learning via in-course messaging, text messaging and phone calls.  An online tutor dashboard alerts the tutor when a student is not progressing and help will be arranged to ensure the student gets back on track.

“A lot of work has been put into building relationships online to ensure students are fully supported and to make sure students who are working from more remote locations have full access to the resources available and aren’t disadvantaged,” Nicky says.

eCampus NZ offers rolling intakes to the NZ certificate in Project Management level 4 throughout the year. There is also the flexibility to enrol groups of students which will benefit businesses looking to upskill employees.

The eCampus NZ online learning platform is offered by several of New Zealand’s major tertiary providers and so all qualifications are awarded by one of these providers. This means that courses completed through eCampus NZ are industry recognised and assured by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).
