Are online courses credible?

Even a decade ago, many people would have still been of the view that online education simply wasn’t comparable to learning in a traditional face to face environment. However, as more and more reputable education providers transition into the online sphere, that stance is now completely obsolete. In fact, there are many advantages that put online students ahead of their classroom-based counterparts.

There are myriad benefits to online learning; most students relish the flexibility it allows, and the opportunities for distance learning. What makes eCampus NZ programmes all the more attractive, is that our certificates and diplomas are all NZQA accredited, meaning they carry equal weight to traditional courses and are industry recognised.

Jackie Rees, eCampus NZ Academic and Quality Manager, says the fact that all online programmes undergo the same level of monitoring and quality assurance by NZQA as face-to-face courses means students can have full confidence in their course. It also means online learners can trust employers will be keen on their qualifications.

“Because all our programmes are approved qualifications listed on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework, it gives employers the confidence that there is no difference between a qualification obtained online to one obtained in a face-to-face environment,” Jackie says.

In fact, online learners are often seen as more proficient in some areas by employers. “We see that our learners develop additional skills through their online study, for instance in digital literacy and in their time management, and these sorts of skills are highly valued in today’s workforce,” Jackie says.

Graduates of eCampus NZ have seen their qualifications take them to new career heights. Many students who were already in careers when they began at eCampus NZ have secured higher positions within their organisations, with other students new to the workforce obtaining roles that they never thought they would be able to.

eCampus NZ allows learners throughout the country, no matter what their family or time commitments, the chance to gain accredited qualifications from one of New Zealand’s leading tertiary providers. Programmes currently offered on the eCampus NZ platform are by Ara Institute of Canterbury, Otago Polytechnic, Universal College of Learning, Nelson Marlborough Institute of Tecnhology, Eastern Institute of Technology, NorthTec, and Toi Ohomai Institue of Technology.

The eCampus NZ learning platform is being closed on 29 February 2024, as part of the completion of the amalgamation into Open Polytechnic | Te Pūkenga. Therefore, access to courseware for ākonga (learners) will be available for three months post course completion or 29 February 2024, whichever happens first.
