A new understanding of change management

Joeline Carney has been a Team Leader for a number of years. In order to enhance her career development, she made a decision to study with eCampus NZ. She first completed her Level 4 Certificate in Business (First Line Management) and then went on to complete her New Zealand Diploma in Business (Leadership and Management) (Level 5).

The primary reasons Joeline, who is originally from South Africa, decided to study was to firstly build on her confidence and secondly to give her a greater understanding of the New Zealand culture. Completing study with eCampus NZ did just that. Joeline says she is now a more relaxed and confident leader.

“I have the tools I need for coaching and mentoring, it also reinforced the importance of being mindful and a good listener.”

The other key takeaway for Joeline was understanding change management and using these principles daily.

“Now, when I roll out a new process or think of a new initiative to implement, I am more mindful of the impact that change can have. When any change is now implemented, I ask, why haven’t we done this and why don’t we do more testing” says Joeline.

Joeline said that every section was interesting, stretched her mind and helped her to think outside the box. While she said the assignments were challenging, she really enjoyed them and it helped writing down what she had learnt.

With Joeline working full-time, as well as being a mother and a wife, she selected eCampus NZ because she wanted the ability to study at her own pace and in her own time. In order to complete her study, Joeline would do it afterhours and in the weekends.

It was Joeline’s first time studying online and she was nervous about how she would get on.

“I was petrified at first of having to do it on my own and thinking I would not have support, but I did have the support at all times! Melanie, my tutor, was awesome, I had her on my first course and on my last subject. It was really great and the courses were structured nicely”, says Joeline.

Joeline’s advice to anyone considering studying at eCampus NZ is simple.

“It’s possible! If I can do it, anyone can do it. It is an awesome experience and eCampus NZ is fantastic.”

The eCampus NZ learning platform is being closed on 29 February 2024, as part of the completion of the amalgamation into Open Polytechnic | Te Pūkenga.
