A Great Sport

Nathan Vella is a loving partner, supportive dad, exceptional rugby player, and an integral and important part of the eCampus NZ team – a bit of an all-rounder overall one could say!

Having made a significant impression on the rugby field as a New Zealand Rugby Union player, and currently playing as a hooker for Canterbury in the New Zealand Domestic Mitre 10 Cup, Nathan’s involvement with sport led him to his career with eCampus NZ.

“Our professional development manager introduced me to Jo Miles, Sales & Business Development Manager at eCampus NZ, when I set out to find a career to keep me in touch with the business world.”

With the significant benefit of being able to work around his rugby, Nathan says his role as a member of the sales team working on the administrative functions of enrolments and enquiries, is the perfect fit for his, and his family’s life.

“At the moment, the thing I enjoy the most, is that the work offers me something completely different to rugby, so I get to enjoy something in the opposite direction. Through my work I am also able to keep in touch with the business world and keep on top of skills with the freedom and flexibility offered by working at home, 100 percent remotely.”

Conceding that working from home does come with its own set of unique challenges – namely remaining disciplined – Nathan enjoys the opportunity to push himself and have a break from his full-on ruby life.

“It serves a good purpose and it’s not as daunting as what you originally think.”

Nathan says this is the exact advice he would offer to prospective students contemplating pursuing online study with eCampus NZ. “It’s a big commitment but you’re not slammed with hours. The key thing is to stay on top of your workload. If you can make this commitment, then there’s absolutely no issue to do your study around a normal job.”
